We had the privilege of supporting Stag Community Church with their Youth and Children’s Work at their annual Away Day last weekend, which was held in the beautiful surroundings of the Peak District at Buxton United Reformed Church.
Whilst the adults engaged with sessions around enabling them to share their faith, we did likewise with the Children and Young People from the Church. After seeing who could build the largest spaghetti towers, and if anyone could ‘protect the egg’, we invited the young people to share something from home which represented something about them – whether that be something they believed or a important value they held dearly to; or a hobby or something they enjoyed doing; or simply their favourite book or sports jersey.
We all then wrote our own newspaper article – or social media post – as a way of sharing our faith, values or hobbies with other people.
We ended the morning engaging with the YMCA Small Talk Resources to encourage conversations amongst each other; ending with some fun ball and parachute games outside. We then joined the adults for lunch before spending a couple of hours in Buxton in the afternoon.
